CELEBRATION, Fla. (May 11, 2007) — Disney Cruise Line guests have another way to share their vacation highlights with friends and family back home when the cruise thanks to cell phone service at sea. Disney Cruise Line has partnered with Wireless Maritime Services (WMS) to provide a wireless cellular network aboard the Disney Magic, Disney Wonder and Disney Dream.
Subscribers of more than 340 cellular providers worldwide, including US carriers, Cingular Wireless, Verizon Wireless, AT&T Mobility, Sprint, T-Mobile and Alltel, are supported on the network. Those guests who still look for a cruise vacation as a way to escape need not worry–service will be available only in guest staterooms.
Guests who choose to use the network are billed by their cell phone provider and rates vary according to the carrier’s plan. The ship’s network is enabled while the ship is at sea, allowing guests to make and receive phone calls as well as utilize text messaging, email and other cellular services. While in port, the network is disabled, allowing guests the ability to access local cell phone providers.
